Gdansk, located on the Baltic coast is Poland’s principle seaport and the centre of the country’s fourth-largest metropolitan area. Over a thousand years of history which includes its devastation in the second World War have seen this now thriving port with its delightful old town restored to its former pre-war grandeur and has placed Gdansk on the European map as a distinct city that has that special something that makes it stand out from the rest. Gdansk is often called the Amber Capital of the World as the surrounding area is the richest known source of this semi-precious stone and the product can be found in many of the city's shops or dotted around its world of cosy streets and historical churches. The perfectly preserved fort ranks among the biggest in Europe and the harbour is a pearl of interesting bourgeois architecture.
One of the main tourist attractions is the 130-meter pier in Gdańsk-Brzeźno a popular place for both the residents and tourists alike. It is estimated that the beach near Brzeźno is visited by an amazing fifty thousand people a day at the peak of the season! Eastern Europe is known to have some of the wildest night clubs in the world and Gdansk is no exception. Just a walk around Gdansk will uncover a variety of pubs, bars and theme parties, where the locals love to dress up for the occasion. (Not for the faint hearted!)
Although it has not been as commercially developed as its Baltic brothers, thanks to the low cost airlines making it easily accessible, Gdansk has become a popular European golf destination and a golf holiday in Gdansk would not be complete without playing the European Tour Postolowo Golf Course, host to the Polish Open, rated as the best golf course in Poland and at a staggering 7,758 yards from the tips, the longest par-72 in Europe!
When you’re not playing golf then a trip to the Malbork Castle Museum, one of Europe’s largest Gothic Castles and probably Poland’s oldest and greatest historical attractions would fill up a full day out as there’s so much to see in this splendid example of a classic medieval fortress with its labyrinth of rooms and chambers, multiple defence walls and exquisite architectural detail.
All in all, Gdansk offers a first class service and great value for money for anyone looking for golf holidays in Poland. Check out some of the hotels we can offer in Gdansk and golf courses available to play
