During the Renaissance, Krakow became the centre of progressive ideas, with a culture that concentrated the most outstanding humanists, writers, architects and musicians. Even a few centuries later, while the city was going through an economic decline during the period of Modernism, the whole of the Polish artistic elite quite probably found its haven in Krakow.
Steeped in history and still retaining much of its traditional Polish culture, the old town and Kazimierz are places of special interest with their mix of atmosphere and beauty hidden away in the mysterious streets full of Galleries, Cafes, Pubs and Restaurants. Here you will find everything you need to relax when you’re not on the golf course and should definitely be added as an integral part of any golf holiday in Krakow as it is rumoured to have more than 300 eating and drinking establishments in the Old Town alone!
Thanks to their close proximity to each other, Krakow's watering holes are ideal for bar hopping and locals and tourists alike have spent many a night partying from the Old Town all the way to Vistula River at the end of Kazimierz. In the warmer months, Kraków's nightlife can be found outdoors in the sidewalk cafes and beer gardens. It then moves underground into cellars all around the city when the colder winter months arrive. Taking a cruise down the river is a great way to admire the Tyniec Abbey and Bielany Priory and the open air flea markets at Plac Nowy and Hala Targowa are very popular tourist attractions on a Sunday morning.
Krakow has become a great destination for golfers and is blessed with two superb and outstanding golf clubs for you to enjoy, the Krakow Valley Golf & Country Club an excellent 18-hole course that hosted the Polish Seniors championship in 2008 and the Royal Krakow Golf & Country Club, a 9-hole course that is probably as close to a links course as you will find anywhere 375 miles from the nearest sea.
