Isla Canela Golf course is situated within a Nature Reserve where the river Guadiana empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Its beautiful location and the mild climate of the region make it an ideal destination for golfing all year around.
The course, designed by Juan Catarineu, is successfully integrated into existing flat terrain and is very comfortable to walk. Wide fairways run between natural dunes and many trees, oranges, olives, eucalyptuses and palms- have been introduced not only to enhance the location but, by their position, to provide natural hazards.
At first sight, it looks like an easy golf course, but it has its hidden difficulties! There are no obvious recovery holes, but two par-3’s are considered the easiest ones on the course: the opening hole is 170m and the eleventh 139m. The ninth as well as the fifteenth are short par-4 where most birdies are made. Really spectacular water hazards that surround some holes come directly from the river forming natural lakes. Gorgeous and also difficult is the second hole par-5. Not particularly long, only 447m, but well bunkered and with a stream which cuts across the fairway a couple of times and comes into play.
