Built-in 1779, Close House in Northumberland was built as a private home for the Bewicke family and through generations until the early 20th century when the premises were mortgaged due to the family’s wealth subsiding. The estate went through many hands until 2004 when it was sold to a local businessman, Graham Wylie, who developed the property as a luxurious retreat offering conferences, meetings, and top-quality golf. The Courtyard suite accommodation provides rooms of a high standard, offering the perfect place to relax after a day on the golf course. The Terrace rooms were later opened, giving the opportunity for Close House to accommodate more golfers throughout the year.
The 18-hole Lee Westwood Filly Course is situated in the ground of the Close House Estate, with great views of the River Tyne Valley in Northumberland. The course is a par 70 and includes 32 bunkers that line the fairways. With a parkland layout and greens that are a test for all levels of golfer, the course is enjoyable and challenging at the same time.
The Colt Golf Course again holds the name of Lee Westwood. This course situated near the remains of the famous Hadrian’s Wall and only seven miles from Newcastle and nestled between the banks of the River Tyne. The Colt Course is ideal for golfers of all levels, whether a member or a one-time visitor. Close House Estate also offers the 9-hole Yearling Golf Course for the shorter play. All 3 golf courses are worth a visit as come within the top UK 100.
